GHD, an international, employee-owned organisation, offer a vast array of consulting engineering services to the private and public sector in water, energy, buildings, environment and transport. Entering their 90th year, the two North Queensland offices of GHD relocated to new premises’ in Cairns and Townsville CBDs. The Cairns office space required wireless integrated business technology in their meeting rooms to easily conduct video conferencing, presentations and meetings with clients and external staff using an PC or laptop, with minimal table clutter.

Functionality, ease of use and minimal clutter were the main requirements for the conference / meeting room solution. Switching between audio and visual is the predominant solution for meeting rooms, however GHD’s need to switch between USB devices like a camera, microphone or touch from an interactive projector between computers was a new challenge. GHD also wanted both an inhouse PC and laptop with wireless capabilities to use these devices.
Different options were considered and trialed and while they worked on paper, there were concerns with reliability. During attendance at a national trade show, NQAV discovered a new product about to be released from AMX – the CTC-1402 Connectivity Kit. The CTC-1402 is a dynamic new AV over IP solution featuring auto switching and connectivity between permanent and guest devices easily, with excellent sound and visual quality.
Whilst not being available until after the completion of the project, GHD could see the benefits available and agreed that waiting would be the most reliable, cost effective and user-friendly solution long term.
The end result is an advanced, yet reliable system that is easy enough for any user to enter the room, present documents to clients, annotate, communicate via voice and or video or just mirror a computer screen. Best of all, the only device visible on the table is a touch panel, impressing GHD’s clients with the quality and simplicity.
